Kaja has been involved in many freelance projects over the past decade. In 2024 Kaja decided to go freelance full-time. Here are some of the projects she has been part of:

Editorial Work

From August 2024 – August 2025, Kaja worked as a freelance Reviews Editor for Poetry Wales. Within this role Kaja commissioned creatives to write poetry reviews, paying particular attention to writers that are under-represented in the publishing industry. She edited and fact-checked copy to ensure all output meets Poetry Wales’ editorial standard. They worked to strict deadlines, prioritising my own editorial work to make sure everything was submitted on time.

Kaja has worked as an editorial assistant for The Welsh Agenda, Lucent Dreaming and Rife Magazine. Kaja has also worked as a proof-reader for Lucent.

Reader in Residence at The Canopi

In 2025 Kaja was given the opportunity to be a Reader in Residence at The Canopi (The Sustainable Studio – Cardiff). This residency explored the topics of active reading and critical thinking by looking at books from Pluto Press that cover issues of social justice, politics, climate, culture and grassroots activism. Through this residency Kaja was also able to help shape The Canopi’s library catalogue.

Network Weaver for Inclusive Journalism Cymru

From June 2024 – June 2025 Kaja was a ‘Network Weaver‘ for Inclusive Journalism Cymru. In this role Kaja worked on creating opportunities and events for the IJC Network. “Inclusive Journalism Cymru is collaborative and participatory. It’s open to anyone in Wales who feels they or their community has been systemically under-represented in the industry. Together, we’re supporting each other and working towards journalism which better reflects society.”

Peak Peers

From September 2024 – November 2024 Kaja was a ‘Peak Peer’ with Peak Cymru.

Through eight progressively chillier autumn and winter days in 2024, Peak Peers brought together 11 Young People (18-30) in and around the Black Mountains to discuss, create and explore themes of belonging, land rights and creativity in a rural context.

The group met at Peak’s sites in Platfform 2 at Abergavenny Train Station and Yr Hen Ysgol in Crickhowell, as well as going out to rivers, commons and bogs with artists, scientists and activists, getting to know and connecting with the landscape.

Resident Editor

Kaja worked as a Resident Editor for Rife Magazine on a collaborative community project ‘The Future is Collective’. Kaja helped a young creative, Kieran Louie, to create a documentary called ‘People Like Us’, which explored the inaccessibility of trans healthcare in Bristol. Kaja helped to develop, film and edit this two-part documentary which can be watched here. She also worked as a photographer for the Watershed during this time.
